MY STORY

A Passionate Educator

I am a Brooklyn born native New Yorker.

My parents divorced and separated when I was 5 years old. My mom moved my brother and I to Staten Island for a fresh start and new beginnings. Here I attended PS69, IS72, and Tottenville High School. I grew up in the New Springville and Bullshead area of Staten Island.

As a kid I always loved Language Arts Class - I loved all things reading and writing and was an avid "Journaler" for years. I still have my journals from when I was a kid.

I am a Hispanic woman of Spanish and Puerto Rican descent. My family is third generation Americans. Growing up my father who's first language is Spanish, faced a lot of discrimination when he migrated to the country.

Unable to foresee the culturally diverse future, he decided it was best for my brother and I to learn English. Which is mainly why I do not speak Spanish, however I can read and write it :)

Growing up I was lucky enough to have some amazing, influential teachers - Mr. Adams was my favorite. He built relationships with all of his students, he played games and music with us and most importantly allowed us to be kids!

I learned so much that year and worked so hard, without feeling bored or burnt out from school. After that I knew I wanted to be the teacher he was and to give other kids that experience.

I still think about him to this day and he has had a big influence on the way I manage and run my classroom. Always with lots of love ❤

I am the first person in my immediate family to go to college. I have a Bachelor's Degree in 7-12 Adolescent Education with an English concentration from the College of Staten Island and a Master's Degree in Special Education 7-12 from Touro College.

I am proud of how far I have come for both me and my family.

I hope to show my students that despite their circumstances they can be successful in anything they desire as long as they work hard and never give up!
